Technique Tuesday-Watercolor Background aka. my Monet moment...
I had a Monet moment yesterday... I wanted to do some kind of watercolor technique, and this is what I came up with. I didn't think it's going to be like this, but I really love it!
SU! Sketch It was one of the stamp sets that I didn't want to sell because of the sunflower... I love sunflowers and the seeds... I think I want sunflowers in my new kitchen, whenever that's going to be...
Here is what I did:
1. First (Step 1) I inked up my sunflower with Summer Sun; rubbed Pumpkin Pie trying not to ink up the middle; then Ruby Red around the edges...
then spritzed water on top and stamped my first sunflower. Then I spritzed more water on it and stamped another flower... (I used a spritzer I got at Wal-Mart from the travel section... They have all kinds of bottles for traveling and I have a bunch of those in my craft room...)
2. Then I cleaned my stamp and repeated step 1 and covered the sheet... now you can do a whole sheet up and cut it up as you need it, or just do a 1/4 sheet...
3. Next (Step 2)
I stamped the leaves, using Old Olive and Garden Green colors... and the middle of the flower with Close to Cocoa and Chocolate Chip ink. I also stamped a flower on scrap paper, cut it out and used it for masking... I used a little bit of water when stamping the middle and the leaves, giving a watercolor look to that part too...
4. After that (Step 3) I used my sponge daubers (again) and sponged Summer Sun & Pumpkin Pie on the flowers... Old Olive on the leaves... and Close to Cocoa on the middle...
5. Finally (Step 4) I spritzed Bravo Burgundy on top with the Color Spritzer Tool...
6. Now that my background was ready, I stamped up the greeting. I didn't want to cover up my beautiful BG, so I wanted to keep it simple. I inked up Just a little note... part of the stamp with Ruby Red and stamped it on white paper, cut it out... then matted on Chocolate Chip, cut it around with Fiskars Scallop scissors... then matted on Old Olive.
7. Added brown grosgrain ribbon (misc.) and attached the greeting with dimensionals, then added an orange brad (Memory Makers).
8. I stamped a ladybug with Pumpkin Pie & Ruby Red, sponged it with Pumpkin Pie ink, cut it out and attached it to the greeting with a dimensional...
9. Before I assemble the card, I punched the corners with Ticket Corners punch, matted it on a slightly bigger Old Olive card stock... then added 4 brads and finally mounted the card on the base...
All supplies were from SU! unless otherwise noted...
